American Theatre Wing Raises $600k for Educational Programs

Stage Directions: On Monday, Sept. 24, the American Theatre Wing hosted their annual gala at the Plaza Hotel. They raised close to $600,000 to support the education and outreach programs of the Wing. The gala marked the 95th year of service of the Wing, honored the Redgrave family’s six generations of contributions to theatre, and included a tribute to former chair of the Wing (and current executive director of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization) Theodore S. Chapin.

I'm glad to see such an emphasis on educational theatre (and not just because I'm in this program). I would be willing to argue anyone that my most valuable learning in Middle and High school came from theatre.

It's nice to see that people are giving back. Theater was such a big part of my upbringing and it did change my life. Making it more accessible for middle and high school would be so great. Theater programs, arts programs, and other after school programs are invaluable because it gives students somewhere to go and something to do. They are much better then the alternatives.
