Asana Is a Free Project Management and Collaboration Tool for People with Multiple Projects
Lifehacker: If you're looking for a tool to help you keep your projects organized, especially if you work on those projects with other people, Asana is a new webapp that can help you keep on top of your to-dos, get updates from other people helping you, and capture everything you and your team are doing in one place so everyone can refer to it quickly.

I honestly want to start using this program right now. This is a great way to organize things for group projects, communicate between different members of design teams, production staff. It's a clear, easy way to show what needs to get done, who's working on it, and who needs to be in the loop regarding it progress, and I think does it in a way that hasn't been done before. For somebody like me, who's a recent Remember The Milk adopter and has become really used to having todo lists set up in a similar format to the way Asana has created. The ability to have comments on tasks, have things assigned to certain people, and keep everyone updated in clear and concise manner is really impressive, and I want to try it out to see if it works as well as the intro video implies.
It is good that this program is free however it is going to have a lot of competition in the market it is trying to fit into. There are hundreds of group project management tools, a handful of which are free. I don't see anything terribly spectacular about this program. I would like to see perhaps a project management tool focused for individual use not teams because there is very little of that and potentially a good niche there. As far as group project management tools go they are a dime a dozen to me and a new kid on the scene doens't turn many eyes.
This program looks very simple to use and cleanly organized, but I'm always hesitant when I see these project management tools. They will only be useful if everyone begins to use them, and getting people to do that can sometimes be very difficult. Things like Remember the Milk can be easier to adopt if the only one who needs to adopt it is you.
How fantastic! I think it is useful to have all of this available in one place; I find myself consistently jumping back and forth between internet mediums with groups to accommodate all the virtual needs. I jump from facebook groups since threads are so easy, and then back to email to share files, and if everyone doesn't have something like gmail, it is all the more difficult to share documents. I hope that many people are willing to use this; as Jackson said, there are many programs that are similar, but since many people do not use them, they are not useful in groups. I also had difficulty with a program that would simply not work on my computer, but this looks, as Ariel pointed out),simple to use and well organized. I am sure it would be of much use for group projects.
I worry about these "all-in-one" solutions. Even if something is specifically designed for exactly what you do, in our kind of business, we never do anything the same way twice.
Now, I am not saying that solutions like this can be used to aid the process, but to put all of your work into a single program (especially if it is free), is very risky.
I think that the benefit of this program is really in the collaboration tools. The project management tools are just too specific to be fully applicable to the spectrum of projects that may be done.
This program is like nothing I've seen before. Sure there are other applications such as google cal, omegle, but they are not interactive with other people. This seems like such a great way to stat in close contact with people you are working on a project with. I could see myself using this for a group assignment, even simply to decide a time to meet and work or talk about what we need to accomplish, but so that everyone involved will be able to see at once. I could also see this being of use in the theatre for the technical director and the rest of the production crew to keep in contact while working on a show. It appears like they have thought of easy ways to get jobs done in a timely manor, such as if you need to create a new event you don't have to go through a whole lengthy process in a new window, but just press the tab key.
