Boys From Syracuse Concert in DC Will Boast Leslie Kritzer, Alex Gemignani, 19-Piece Orchestra
Playbill.com: Broadway's Anastasia Barzee, Leslie Kritzer, Alexander Gemignani, Michael McGrath, Ben Davis, Adam Heller and more will star in a fall concert version of the 1938 Shakespeare-inspired Broadway musical The Boys From Syracuse as a special event in Shakespeare Theatre Company's season in Washington, DC.

There has been a recent revival of enjoyment for these concert versions of shows, which makes total sense as an economically viable option for struggling theatres to put on musicals, or even roll in some extra cash. Tickets to musicals are often more expensive than straight plays, and even a concert version seems to justify drastic price increases. Since there is a much shorter rehearsal (and often performance) period, theatre companies can bring in big name stars to do iconic shows that audiences will pack the house for with a significantly reduced production cost. I think it's great that STC is looking back at forgotten productions and shows and integrating them into their season.
