What the Mayor might have said at the Goodman

WBEZ: The Dueling Critics and a whole crowd of those who are otherwise night folks assembled at the Goodman at dawn (well, 8 a.m.) last Thursday for what was billed as a major important announcement, complete with mayor. (These days no announcement is major-important unless the mayor is there. Conversely, if the mayor is there we're all primed to think that the announcement is major-important. Presumably this Pavlovian response among the press will wear off soon.)

What is this author actually saying. Is the author bitter/complaining about doing her job. Yes she probably could have "stood in bed". It is fun however to ponder on what the big news is going to be - when someone promises big news. If this article discussed all of the needs of the city in more detail, I think this could have been a very good article

Its a bit deceptive to call everyone down to the Goodman for a "Big Announcement" of "Hey we only need a bit more of your money" so I can see the author's frustration, although its is a bit odd to essentially complain about your job in an article. With the economy the way it is, its good that the Goodman can create an endowment and will continue on for a long time to come
