i think that this is very good that esta is making it safer for workers and for people watching the show. i am glad that they are having the companies effected work with them to make the new rule.

It seems like no matter what industry you are in there needs to be some body that finally sits down and (with the cooperation of those affected) writes standards for how things should be done. It helps safety and interoperability to an incredible degree - without standards, even de-facto ones it would be nearly impossible to do something as simple as plugging in an appliance without having to wire a new plug. The standards (written by NFPA in that case but ESTA in the article) make sure everything will work together. Similar standards (such as the fall protection one in the article) specify safety requirements to avoid accidents and make for a generally safer workplace.
