When Plays Are Political, Liberal Views Dominate the Theater

NYTimes.com: "During this election season theatergoers in New York can see a dozen or so overtly political plays, about Iraq, Washington corruption, feminism or immigration; what they won’t see are any with a conservative perspective."

I do notice that the entertainment industry is usually liberal. However, I think that this is pretty obvious and people who turn to theatre and movies to influence their political views, are usually blind to this. I feel that the public should be aware of the liberal bias in the media and entertainment but if they can't observe this for themselves, the media should not be responsible for incorrectly influencing them.

This is not something new or even something unique to theatre. We were just talking in my elective today about how the right wing, historically tends to make the political beautiful to communicate their ideals whereas the left wing communicates by making art political.

So instead of making art about the current political situation, the conservative faction is using the political situation as art.
