Expensive: $35 Per Ticket Movie Theater Comes With Valet Parking, Blankets And Slippers

Consumerist: "That new luxury movie theater we told you about back in March will open Friday in affluent South Barrington, IL. At $35 a ticket, you're treated to valet parking, waiter service, individual reclining chairs, and should you require, blankets and slippers."

I feel like going to the movies already drains your wallet; I can't imagine trying to find more ways to spend money just to see a movie with food. If you have so much money that you can afford to regularly treat yourself to a luxurious movie experience, then it makes sense. However, I'm very intrigued by the bleu cheese potato chips.

This sounds like a great idea (I love the blanket!), but at 35 bucks a pop, I'm going to have to pass. Heck, for 35 dollars I could buy my own blanket and go rent half a dozen movies to watch in my living room.

What sorts of movies will they show at this place anyway? With the right movies you could definitely find people willing to pay this.

Though I cant imagine going to this place more than once i feel like it would be a weird funny date kinda thing if you didnt live there. once in a very long while you grab a slice of pizza and then spend your evening this way and laugh about it later. there are obviously better and less expensive activities to laugh about, but it certainly sounds like an experience.

For all of that it sounds like it's worth it. Granted most people wouldn't be able to afford it, but for a one time thing it would be worth it as a treat. Tickets are already 10 dollars so for the other 25 you get valet, a waiter, nice seats, and a blankets and slippers. Sure you still have your food to buy, but it if your going all out why not.

I wonder what the motivation behind making this kind of thing available is. I don't feel that the box office has taken a significant hit to pirated movies but the price of tickets has skyrocketed in the past few years. I suppose that perhaps the sentiment could be "if I'm going to put a hole in my wallet at the movies I may as well do it in style." Who knows..

I agree with what others have said--this is a great one-time experience. I already feel horrible spending so much money on movie anyway, but maybe if it's a $35 ticket I'm having to buy, the food would actually be halfway decent (except it's not included).
Definitely a fun experience, I would think, but maybe just once.

Blankets while in a movie theatre, though? That's clever. That'll fix those people who always complain as to how cold it is in movie theatres!

I think this is a great upgrade from pre-teenagers making out in the back row. The extra services offered are really enticing, and are a way to bring a classier light to the movie theatre which has become ingrained in our head as being grungy. The problem for me is that the base fee is $35, and then you pay for your food. That's just a little steep for me on a personal level, but if I could watch multiple movies then it might be worth it.

for me, this does not sound SOO ridiculous that movies are going to this. A few years ago, a premium theatre opened at my local movies. It is a one screen luxury cinema. Tickets cost $18 for nights and 13.50 matinees. Here, the seats are nice and big leather recliners and again there is higher classier food for sale. ANd you can drink. So it is a fun night out on a SPECIAL occasion. And like Kevin mentioned, it is for adults. the one near me is 21+ and they card. For adults, who are not starving college students, it can be a fun treat, to celebrate a big birthday ,anniversary or cool date etc it style. $35 is much steeper, and i don't anticipate them spreading rampantly across the country, but I do think that they could be a fun time in the right communities.

seriously? Movies is going to a theatre that probably isn't all that nice. Getting popcorn and paying about 8-15$. Putting the price at $35 plus a real meal is about $50. This is pretty stupid. I could see a possible use for this if it was for a party but seriously? They are trying to get rid of those who can't pay that much and give the upper class i nice way to view movies. It's stupid. Plus if people are really fed up with those around them go to a good movie. Unless your seeing eagle eye or this infamous new chihuahua movie. The two theatres I go to in Pittsburgh and play the better movies showing are probably the ones that are the most disgusting but it's not about going to the place it's about seeing a movie.

I have been to a movie theatre where you sit in a lazy-boy type chair and can order dinner... it was an amazing experience. This sort of thing definitely provides a very different movie viewing experience. However, if money was no issue, I would do this all of the time. But, in the real world, this kind of extravagance can only be a once-in-a-very-long-while sort of experience!
