No doubt about it, Disney is well on its way to taking over the world. However, I am very interested to see what sort of projects come out of this new venture in India. This could be a great twist on the Disney we all know.

Well this will either be an opportunity for disney to completely ruin another culture for young american children, or it will be a great opportunity for disney to find a new way to see 'other' people and in turn teach our children to see 'others' in a better way too.

You'd think that Disney would try release these a little wider than to just India/Bollywood. If the Disney name is on it, I'm sure parents in English speaking countries would want their kids (who can read) to see it, even if they don't really understand the artform. Even so, what about Indian families in America? I know Bollywood was really popular in my dorm freshman year, not just because there were a lot of Indian kids living on my floor. Their non-Indian friends loved sitting down and watching them just because the format is so different..

Indian film industry is the largest in the world when it comes to number of films and ticket sales, but not in terms of export. I myself have never actually gotten into the whole Indian film thing, but it would be interesting to do a side by side analysis with a movie aimed towards children. It's a little surprising to me that Disney has a branch in India, but it makes complete sense for them to try and get in on the market. I can't wait until Indian films start getting international distribution just so that we can have access to more foreign films.
