Burnett wraps "Arms" around daughter
The Denver Post: "Burnett co-wrote the stage adaptation with daughter Carrie Hamilton, who never lived to see the play performed. She died in January 2002, just months before the Broadway-bound dramedy debuted in Chicago under the direction of the esteemed Hal Prince. It makes its Colorado debut starting Tuesday at the Arvada Center."

this story was really powerful to me. I always like knowing that famous actors are really people to, and those that showbiz doesnt seem to change. Carol Burnet is definitely a star, but she is kind and a loving mother. I am glad that she and her daughter wrote a show together.
it was interesting to me for many of the same reasons, but i think now i am more interested in the childhood this girl had with burnett as her mother. i think it is so interesting to see how kids are affected by who their parents are, and having such a vibrant and show-stopping mother must have been interesting. i am not surprised though that her daughter had issues later in life, because it seems that being around "the business" is detrimental in that way.
This story really reminds me of Anthony Rapp's "Without You" in that it uses a performance piece to cope with the loss of a loved one. What is interesting to me is that "Without You" was intended as a goodbye to Anthony's mother while "Arms" has become a mother's goodbye to her child in the context of her daughter's death. very interesting. My heart goes out to Burnett and the family.
