I agree with critic Julie in her idea that producers may have just ‘thrown things at the wall to see what sticks.” Often in these mega musicals, Legally Blonde to be another recent example, there is no amount of production quality that can save a mediocre book. It may be beautiful, but the theatrical experience is still unfulfilling in a total way.
