Puttin' on the Glitz: Young Frankenstein Opens on Broadway

Playbill News: "He grunts, he shuffles, he stomps — he sings! Mary Shelley's 19th-century creature has been reinvented for Broadway in Young Frankenstein, the new Mel Brooks musical, opening Nov. 8 at the Hilton Theatre."

I would absolutely love to see this musical. With the success that "The Producers" had and how funny the movie itself is, I can only imagine how good this is. I have heard that the "Puttin on the Ritz" number is amazing.

I enjoy the comparison of this musical to Spamalot, in the sense that it too has a split audience, the people who know every line of the cult classic movie, and those who do not.

I think that it is an interesting musical genre formula in creating an audience, as it helps the profit margin in both the film and theatre world. People will see one, and probably want to see the other.

This sounds like it will be just as good as The Producers. Brooks has yet to let us down. I have not seen Spamalot but I have been told that it is very good. I also imagine that based on the success of this show there will be a revival of the movie.

The reviews for the show definitely have been less than favorable, but I feel that that is mainly because of the comparisons to shows like The Producers and Spamalot that are only hurting, rather than helping, the reviews of the show. If this show had any potential to stand on its own, then it might be a bit more successful. That being said, after seeing some early performacnes on talk shows and stuff, the music and choreography are not exactly at the same level as these other shows, so it will be a letdown to a lot of people.
