Experimental film comes to Pittsburgh
The Tartan Online: "For fans of experimental film, this year’s Three Rivers Film Festival, presented by the Pittsburgh Filmmakers, should provide plenty of options. The festival will showcase a variety of movie genres, including foreign, independent, and classic."

As a fan of experimental art, I can't wait to watch some of the films, even if I can only watch like one or two with the hectic schedule.
Noting a line in the article about the film I wanted to watch: '"Filmmakers will be showing The Band’s Visit, an Israeli film about an Egyptian police band lost in Israel. The film was recently disqualified as the country’s nomination for the Oscar for Best Foreign Film because less than 50 percent of its dialog was non-English."
I feel a good film is sucessful because it is good, or for example addresses the issues it wants to.
Winning the oscars is like an accessory on a very beautiful woman. It just adds on to the shine that is already there.
I would go to this but the regent square theatre is approximately 42 minutes away. I am a huge fan of filmmaker Kenneth Anger. They note him as experimental but he is not at all. Kenneth Anger inspired the music video basically. He is also the author of the Hollywood Babylon books which is why a lot of people don't like him. I wish I could get a chance to see this since he is probably one of the oldest most inspiring filmmakers. He has inspired Martin Scorcese, David Lynch, and many many more.
42 Minutes, not...

it always makes me sad to see films as great as these not getting the international attention they deserve. just like almost any other art form out there today, the meaningful and exceptional artists and their work are often over looked in pop-culture's search for something to cling on to. i still struggle to find the answer to why that is, but nevertheless we can be thankful for festivals like this one that bring these artists and their work to the foreground. i didn't hear one bad review of this year's festival and the work shown at it.
By the way if you try to buy tickets to see Kenneth Anger talk on Thursday the ticket website says you have to be 21 but I called them and they said that you only have to be 18 since apparently there is worse on TV.
