Why we must close the net

The Sun Online: "“I do think it would be an incredible experiment to shut down the whole internet for five years and see what sort of art is produced over that span.
“There’s too much technology available.
“I’m sure, as far as music goes, it would be much more interesting than it is today.”"

Shutting down the internet for purposes of artistic gain. I could see the benefits in which some people might have an enhanced sense of creativity to generate better art. I don't think he can really be serious about this as the internet is way too vital for economic purposes and purposes of keeping things going relatively quickly (cough). Anyone could argue that the internet provides a big resource for artistic innovation as photos, music, videos, and other mediums can be shared so easily for others to perhaps build off of. If Elton John is serious about his desires, then he really is not weighing the problems very well.

I can see why he wants the net closed, and he is true about people not communicating outside. Internet might give great impact, rather negative, on people famous like him, but would there be any resolution to that problem?
Also, if the internet gets closed down becuase of his reasons, would there be any alternatives. The internet might be very cruel to people very famous, and people should work on that, but is it necessary to close the interenet for that purpose.
