Broadway tickets cause stir

Variety.com: "Earlier this week word got out that the League of American Theaters and Producers had last fall dropped its opposition to abolishing laws that cap how much secondary ticket outlets -- i.e., brokers -- can charge above a ticket's face value."

This is interesting because I am looking at this article on both sides of the spectrum. One as a practitioner of theatre and then as an audience member. As a member of the theatre I think that this is really good for business and hopefully this would include an increase in wages for all included in the production however, I have a sneaking suspicion that it would only benefit the pocket of the producer. As a theatre audience member I am a little bit upset that the pricing of tickets can be over their face value greatly because I am a student on a budget and this increase, would cause me to be limited as to what I could see however, there is always the option of the student rush ticket...

I think this would only benefit the ticket brokers.. not even the producers. They'll charge as much as audiences will pay. With companies not even related to the production company marking up tickets that much, I don't see anyone in the theatre, audiences included, benefitting.

Young Frankenstein's proposed online ticket auction sounds interesting.
