In San Francisco, the Fringe Living is Edgy

Backstage: "Founded and produced by Christina Augello, unflappable artistic director of the Exit Theatre complex, the SFFF (www.sffringe.org) is now in its 15th year, running Sept. 6-17. This year's festival has attracted solo performers and quirky ensembles from places as far away as Spain and the U.K. (a scheduled group from India were unable to obtain visas), many fresh (or bedraggled, as the case may be) from performing at festivals elsewhere."
