It sounds like a good idea; cheap but good theater in a really large space that overlooks Manhattan. However, how much existing architecture is going to be able to support a grid or truss or anything? Is this supposed to be "The Globe" as in no special effects, no fly rail, no nothing? I wonder how exciting that is going to be for modern audiences. I think we may be too conditioned in the ways of spectacle to be intrigued by a "Globe" with no pizzazz.
What a fascinating idea. It would be amazing to see this project happen. One of the biggest plagues to theatre these days is how expensive it is-cutting it off from thousands of people who wont or cant pay for it. It would be interesting to see what kinds of shows would be produced in this theatre. Would it be strictly Shakespeare or would they include new and classic American works as well?
