Sounds like a big publicity stunt to me. How is that news? Television, Movies, and Theater groups are ALWAYS in need of money and they are ALWAYS going to "go down without the resources." Yes, technology is changing. However, I think that begging for money is not the way to adapt, which is what one ultimately has to do in order to survive. If a company cannot learn the new technology or implement it, then is it time for them to step out? Sure, they may have provided us will awesome film makers, but I kind of think that awesome film makers will emerge no matter what the circumstances are. There always seems to be another one.
