What to do tonight: "War Horse's" life-like puppets brought to life by actors working in harmony

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: A horse is a horse, of course, unless that horse is one of the amazing puppet stars of "War Horse." The national tour of the Tony-winning play that opens tonight at the Benedum Center, held a meet and greet for the media with Joey, the loyal horse that bonds with British lad Albert and embarks on a harrowing World War I adventure.

I have always been fascinated with the horse puppets in this show. While I have sadly never gotten a chance to see it, I have seen many pictures and talked about it with friends. Its such a cool concept, that you can take some wood and three actors and turn it into a seemingly living breathing animal that the entire audience buys as acceptable even when you can still clearly see the human actors with in it. I would be very interested to learn about the process they went through to design and create such a movable and controllable piece. I also wonder how they go about storing it/traveling with it, because from what ive seen it looks like it would just collapse if the people were not supporting it.
