Julie Taymor Blames Bono and The Edge for 'Spider-Man' Problems in Latest Court Filing

Hollywood Reporter: Julie Taymor, former director of the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, has filed her response to the producers' countersuit over her departure from the show. The Academy Award-nominated director describes what 8 Legged Productions had to say in January as "over thirty pages of highly sensationalistic, false and misleading allegations aimed at blaming Taymor, as a co-author of the musical, for problems encountered in development of the musical and assassinating her character and professional reputation."

This is turning into a lot of he-said, she-said. The whole "Plan X" thing seems really mysterious and like something out of a movie. If Plan X actually existed and was being implemented while Taymor was still working on the show, that would have been a serious waste of money! If they knew they didn't like what Taymor was doing they should have let her go earlier instead of spending even more money for her services and their own back-up plan. Taymor deserves to be compensated for all of the time and work that she put into the show. It seems like she wasn't the only one working on the production that had issues and it's sad that this has all had to be settled with so much petty fighting. This whole fiasco is a great demonstration of what not to do in the professional world. It's clearly best to be upfront and honest about personal or work-related issues before they snowball into a mess this complicated and this expensive.

A show is only as strong as its weakest link. It's unfortunate to hear of all the finger-pointing and blame-giving to so many different people involved in the making of the show. Theatre is a collaborative effort, and all those involved in its successes and failures have to face the music together. The fact that all this he-said, she-said stuff is still happening is starting to look severely unprofessional to all those involved.
