Yamaha Audioversity Held in Vegas

Lighting&Sound America Online - News: The second Audioversity Expo held by Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. in Las Vegas during late August, was deemed an unequivocal success by the more than 500 attendees, reports the company. The specialized event was catered toward audio professionals and those interested in gaining an in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience of all Yamaha Commercial Audio and NEXO products. "It was clear that Audioversity provided invaluable lessons for many that are still gaining basic digital knowledge, but also those craving more mixing tips and techniques," states Audioversity presenter Monty Lee Wilkes, a front-of-house engineer for such artists as the Scissor Sisters and the Replacements.

Yamaha has always been good about offering training seminars for its professional audio products, and since its recent acquisition of Nexo is able to provide complete, high-end solutions (although their large format consoles could use an update one of these years).

The opportunity to talk to Stan Miller would seem to make it worth going to this event alone. Stan is responsible for a lot of the features and trends that we've seen in large format consoles over the last 40 years, begininning with his collaboration with Yamaha on the PM1000 and continuing to this day. He was also one of the first people to fly loudspeakers, which is now ubiquitous in every facet of the industry, and the first person to take a out a major concert tour using an entirely digital signal chain from the microphone inputs all of the way to the amplifier outputs.
