Open Letter to Rocco Landesman
<100k Project: "First of all, allow me to congratulate you on being confirmed as the new Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. Over the past 18 months, I have had the pleasure of working closely with Mr. Bill O’Brien and Ms. Carol Lanoux Lee in the Theatre Program, both of who have been encouraging, helpful, and inspirational."

The centralization of American theater is a big problem. I believe that this was the exact problem that lead to the creation of regional theaters decades ago, to provide exposure to live theater across the country. Now the problem is not bringing theater to the people (although it is still an issue) it is bringing the theater artists to the people. Because of equity requirements that theaters hold auditions in a AEA home office city like NYC or Chicago, actors are making their homes in these cities so they have more opportunity to find work, same for designers. If we want to change this, we need to change the behaviors of casting and artistic directors who come to NYC to find SMs, actors and designers.
