Russia bans play about deadly siege at Moscow theatre

The Independent: "A British playwright says her play about the Moscow theatre siege has been banned by Russian authorities after one performance."

It is great to hear that she isn't taking this sitting down. Although a sensitive subject, this is clearly an issue that should be discussed - seeing as government officials are trying to censor the play. I hope that this play helps bring light to the event that it was based on, and it'll be interesting to see what ends up happening with the censorship issue.

I can see why the Russian government is doing this, i mean, it is a very sensitive subject as to how the Russian Forces handled the crisis. I understand that officials may not want a play to irritate recently settled emotions and discussions on this topic, but then again, "Art is meant to disturb" - George Braque. It is a powerful issue, but i think that there is a very important discussion to be had about it and through art is always a reasonable choice.
