Couple's Custom Microphones Carry Colorful Past

NPR: "The Pelusos are part of a boutique microphone-making movement — an effort to inexpensively replicate the look and sound of classic mikes. Peluso microphones have been used to record the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the bluegrass band Blue Highway and the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, among others."

Though I use the quite often, I have never really thought of making microphones as an art. though I suppose just as a musical instrument maker fuses art and science in their creation of a unique musical device, microphones are very much the same way, and acre just as carefully crafted in a small workshop. I would be curious to hear these microphpnes in comparison to a Shure or Sennheiser which are not cheap, but much more prevalent all over this industry.
