Generative AI Brings Efficiency to the Production Process
Variety: Generative AI already surpasses human creative capabilities with existing tools in two key respects: speed and cost of production.
One of the first major benefits of introducing gen AI to production pipelines is its ability to unlock substantial new efficiencies for content creation, in effect translating to greater productivity, time saved and lower costs.

AI is everywhere these days. It can do so much that we might as well be using it to enhance our industry. While theatre production is a creative and collaborative process, generative AI can offer several benefits to enhance efficiency and streamline certain aspects. An example is that generative AI can assist in script analysis and editing by identifying patterns, analyzing character arcs, and suggesting improvements. Natural language processing algorithms can help identify inconsistencies, plot gaps, or repetitive elements in the script, allowing for more efficient revisions and ensuring a coherent and engaging narrative for all people on a team. While generative AI can bring efficiency to certain aspects of theatre production, it's important to note that the human creative process and collaboration remain central to the artistic nature of theatre. Generative AI should be seen as a tool to support and enhance the creative process rather than replace it. Theatre professionals should work in conjunction with AI systems to leverage their benefits while maintaining the artistic integrity of the production.
I have heard of the discussion of AI generated artwork, but I did not realize that it also was happening in the music industry. I simply can not fathom people who believe that AI produced art is the same thing as true artists. Since it is apparent that AI generated work will be a part of the future, I believe it needs to come with some sort of disclaimer and adhere to copyright laws. People and companies should not be able to exploit artists’ work without consequence. I also listened to the sound clip of the generated Ariana Grande voice singing “kill bill” and it is terrible. As in, it sounds exactly like I imagine Siri or Alexa would sound like if programmed to sing. It is much easier to detect music that is created by AI, like the racist AI rapper, but as these programs are more refined, I suspect it may become much more difficult.
