New York City Plans City Artist Corps Program to Help Artists Get Back to Work
www.broadwayworld.com: Mayor Bill de Blasio and the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs today announced the NYC Artist Corps, a $25 million investment in local artists to bring creative programming and engagement to every corner of the city this summer. The Artist Corps builds on the recently announced City Cleanup Corps, a New Deal-inspired economic recovery program to directly create 10,000 jobs and make New York City the cleanest, greenest city in the United States.

This initiative in New York City is so exciting to see. Over the course of the pandemic NYC became a ghost town of sorts with so much of life shut down and so many people affected by COVID. I’m really glad to see that the city government is working to restore life and art to a place that was so largely based on that just a year ago. It was really sad to drive through NYC over winter break and see no one walking the streets and so much of life slowed down and stopped. I have always known New York to be a fast-paced, energy-filled wonderland where artists thrive, so I am glad that deBlasio is working to restore that nature of the city. This, to me, seems like it is going to be an explosion of art that I am so excited to experience first hand. This should be really exciting for this summer and beyond.
