Deadline: Up characters Russell and Dug the dog are out — and so are the Actors’ Equity members who played them — in a revamped version of a bird-show attraction at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom.
As the union and Walt Disney World in Orlando enter into discussions about a grievance filed by Equity over the resort’s COVID-19 safety protocols, Disney has quietly revised what was previously known as ‘Up! A Great Bird Adventure’ into an actor-less ‘Feathered Friends in Flight.’

It's sad to hear that Disney created workarounds to Equity’s strike. I think that it's great that there became more musical based productions, but I’d rather they didn’t replace traditional theatre in Disney’s resorts. I agree with the blog Blog Mickey that that new show seems amateur, apart from the musicians.
I’m surprised that there were no repercussions for Disney from theme park-goers. I would think that actor-less shows wouldn’t be as appealing to many.
I’m glad that Equity stood up for the actors at Disney, and that mask protocols are being recommended. It seems that Disney took some precautions- with banning consumption of food and drink to ensure masks are worn at all times, and keeping Disney Land closed longer.
I couldn’t find much information on how this was received, as this article was released during Covid-19 times. However, it seems that Disney returned to having actor performances after Covid lifted.
