New leaders at Santa Fe Opera

Albuquerque Journal: The Santa Fe Opera announced Friday that its Director of External Affairs Robert Meya will assume the position of General Director starting Oct. 1.

Meya’s appointment comes after current General Director Charles MacKay announced in August 2017 that he would retire after the opera’s 2018 season.

It will be interesting to see how this change affects the company in the years to come. Santa Fe opera has long been a powerhouse in the regional theatre scene. When significant changes like this happen, it is often the headline, but the smaller company shifts might not make it to the front page news. I wonder how if at all, this could change their summer program from a technical perspective. Now with the change in planning, this could mean a push to do more extensive ideas on smaller operational budgets, or that other thing is affected in ways that won't affect the company. Taking a quote from the article that says "Three brains think better and bigger" makes me think that they don't have any drastic changes in mind but rather big picture ones that should help smooth out any potential rough patches to come.
