The Difference Is in the Details
Stage Directions: Unlike many other backdrop companies, Backdrops Fantastic’s roots are not based in the world of theatre. The company was founded by artist Clayton Hellis, who got his start in the Special Events industry by painting theme backdrops in his home garage and selling them to local event planners.

I’m not actually a huge fan of backdrops in theatre, but I understand their place and role. We constantly used them in high school because they are good way to set the scene, cover the stage area, and can be used over and over again. What I had no idea of was that there is a steady demand for backdrops in special events. During one event last summer that I worked, we used a circus backdrop to set the theme for a fundraiser, but I didn’t realize how common this might be. Even though I don’t personally like them in theatre, I appreciate the artistry and skill that goes into creating one. I worked with someone last summer that spent a few weeks with a group that lived on a farm and painted backdrops in their barn. I asked her about her experience and she told me that the group of women she worked for had so much passion in their work and loved doing it, which seems to be the same for Backdrops Fantastic.
