Concert Versions of Broadway Musicals Appear Beyond Theaters
NYTimes.com: Rosie O’Donnell sat in a booth at the Broadway supper club 54 Below, sipping red wine and getting teary as she watched members of the original cast of “Taboo,” the flop she produced on Broadway a decade ago, power through the score.

Wait, there are places that do this?!? That's so cool! It's like a cabaret of all the songs in a show. Do they do the choreography as well, or just the songs sung with people standing at a microphone. I think both would be interesting depending on the song. I am glad that some of the lesser known shows are getting some fame back. It is surprising how many people in theatre today don't appreciate or know the smaller musicals. I know I didn't until I joined a small community theatre group that only performed these kinds of shows. I have found a few that have really touched me, and now I love them to death. This concert revival-ish things are possibly the best things that could happen to the musical theatre world.
I think this is very sweet and I think more people should see more of them. I think a lot of people forget about the past because a lot of us are so driven to keep looking at the future. I think this isn't just something that should be happening in the theatre world! I think there should be events like this for music too! I mean there are a lot of tribute bands that go around (mostly because if your looking at any music spanning from the 70s to the 80s most of them are either dead or just in no condition to perform...) but, right now as I'm making this comment, I'm listening to some pretty amazing punk music from the 70's and I would totally love to go to a concert that had sort of the history of music. I think theatre is important because of the place it has in everyones heart. And music is the same way! This might just be me, but I would die to go to a concert that had The Animals and Hermans Hermit and the Grateful Dead and Jimi Hendrix and the Sex Pistols and the Dead Kennedys and the Doors and Queen and NSYNC and just the whole transition of music. (Yes I know, a lot of them are dead... in the older bands) but music is such a big part of society and the culture of the times!!!!
I think I completely strayed from the article but the music I'm listening to now and this article got me thinking how awesome something like this would be.
These are nice idea to pay tribute to the show, but I don;t care for these concerts very much. To me it seems as if the show is only partially coming to life in an odd music concert type fashion. They simply cannot live up to the actual show, with full acting, choreography and design. We should keep theatre shows a full show and rock concerts can be rock concerts. Just my opinion.
