Theatre content from Live Design Magazine: Starting before 6pm six nights a week, a line forms on a warehouse-filled street on the far west side of Chelsea in New York City. In a neighborhood long known for its nightclubs and galleries, the eclectic mix of customers, young and old, dressed in business attire, evening wear, and jeans, comes as no surprise, but these aren’t club kids or art connoisseurs. These are guests at the McKittrick Hotel, waiting for their allotted entrance time.

Forbes: In a recent Wall Street Journal article on “The Lost Art of the Handwritten Note,” author Philip Hensher addresses how our increasing reliance on typing and texting is making the handwritten note go the way of the fax machine. He says, “The ready communication through electronic means that has replaced the handwritten letter is wonderful. But we have definitely lost something here, and those Skype, email and text exchanges won’t be treasured in the way that my teenage letters, scribbled journals and postcards have been for years.”

Tech Expo 2013 – Do Try This at Home (Carefully)

sightlines.usitt.org: From a confetti cannon to a trick sword to a person-lift to breakable jewelry made of soap, this year's Tech Expo submissions again proved that necessity is indeed the mother of invention. The 17 entries that made it into the 2013 Tech Expo were all great examples of "the creativity, ingenuity and ability to work under constraints that all of us in USITT are all too familiar with: time, money, and manpower," wrote Tech Expo Chair Rob Kerby of Northern Kentucky University's Department of Theatre and Dance.
