Pittsburgh Public Theater prepares for its biggest musical -- '1776'

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Ted Pappas can't sit still. He's pacing and talking about preparing for Pittsburgh Public Theater's version of climbing Mount Everest, the musical "1776," while just a few long strides away, two dozen staff members are standing in a circle atop the O'Reilly Theater's turntable stage. Mr. Pappas describes the exercise as "a stress test," something he should be well-acquainted with as the show's director.

I recently had the chance to work on a production of 1776 at the Heritage Theater Festival in Charlottesville VA and I can attest that the demands and requirements for this show are enough to make any director go insane. The 40 minute non-musical portion of this musical requires intensive focus in both choreography/lyrics as well as straight acting dialogue. I also appreciate this article focusing on the set, as this show has multiple varying scenes and extremely large and quick transitions in between. I would find this very hard to do without some sort of moving scenery.
