Rift deepens between Scottish artists and Creative Scotland, as despairing open letter is published

Culture | guardian.co.uk: Over 100 Scottish artists, including three Turner-prize winners, a Booker winner and a winner of the Costa award have written an open letter protesting at the "deepening malaise" at Creative Scotland. It is the latest iteration of what now looks like an unbreachable rift between the Scottish arts community and their national funding body.

It's interesting to learn how theatre functions in other countries. From what I've read, this article included, it seems that other nations have a large amount of government funding and input in their theatrical endeavors. These two parties are essentially declaring artistic disagreement warfare on one another through an officially drafted letter. The United States just doesn't have anything like this. Our government runs from art instead of rushing to be a part of it. So, while it sucks that Scotland is experiencing some inner turmoil on the arts front, isn't it nice that people care about it enough for the news to travel all the way back to us? We get so concerned about having a voice at all.....that just doesn't seem to be as big of an issue in Europe.
