Shakespeare returns to Kabul

PRI.ORG: "'Love's Labour's Lost' is the first Shakespeare play to be performed in Afghanistan since the Soviet invasion of 1979.

My first question is why this article was published this year? (Maybe because of the Globe festival next year.) My second question is why Soviet invasion seems to equal no Shakespeare? (Were they only permitted to do Chekov or something?) And, at first, I wondered why on earth Love's Labors Lost? But that, in this article makes sense. I'd like to hear a little bit more about this production, how it was a defiance, and what the public and political reaction was to it. Looks like a side research project. It's all information I would have liked to see in the article.
