New Bits Let You Drill Square Holes

Tool-Rank.com: "Actually I am only telling you a half truth. The latest bits from Lee Valley will give you a square hole and does use a drill, but there is more to the story. This new tool is actually a fancy square hole punch that uses a drill bit to remove most of the wood material. For those of you wondering, yes, it functions almost exactly the same way as an electric mortise machine."

This is kinda cool- might be good for solving the never ending problem of fitting the square peg in the round hole....Still it seems like a very annoying process. This glorified hole punch still requires pre-drilling, then another drill round, then removing the bit and hammering away....Still sounds really tedious. Long story short, i'd hate sit around for hours with this all day to make square holes.

This square punch tool seems like it is great for making these specialized type of holes for plugs. However, this tool would not be a great tool for theater use, because we don't do much, if any, work like this in theater. It is cool that it does not require any specialized tools to use -- you just need a drill and a mallet. I would like to get my hands on one of these tools to see how well it works. The price for it seems low, but also high, the range in which they give is very large ($25 to $130). I guess if you would use this tool a lot then it would be a great idea to get it, but I think for the everyday person it is not really needed.
