Theater For The Future: "One of the things that’s cooking is coming up quick – on May 3rd 5pm at the Goodman, there’s a big ol’ exposition and awards ceremony of the work done by theatrical designers in Chicago. Perhaps you’ve heard of it: The Michael Merritt Awards."

This is a great opporunity for the designers in this business to get recognition for the outstanding work they do. Not just that, but it is a time for immense learning. By having designers prepare and present portfolio material, young and aspiring designers will be able to learn from their work. The fresh eyed designers will be able to see what they are drawn to about the portfolios, and what separates them from the crowd. I also really like the fact that this is called the "Excellence in Design and Collaboration program." It emphasizes that this business is not just about the most innovative designs, but how you work with others in the business.
