NYTimes.com: How at ease is Leslie Jordan with himself these days? Comfortable enough that when he was hired to perform on a recent Alaska-bound cruise, he invited his mother to take the extra stateroom he was offered.

Okay, so after reading this article, and the article written about Sherie Rene Scott's upcoming Broadway musical, I just have to pose the question: is it narcissistic to write a musical/play about yourself? I understand taking inspiration from your life, and writing pieces that involve instances you yourself have gone through...IE divorce, adolescent experiences, etc...but a lot of one man plays, and Scott's musical in particular, sound like they're about the lead actor/actress. Is it just me that finds this a bit peculiar? If I was an actress, I would never assume my life was so interesting that I should star in a musical about myself. I just find it so weird that someone would think their life is so interesting that people would pay money to see them act the whole thing out. Unless you had a truly surreal life...which Jordan might have had...I don't know, it would be interesting to see. I think the case with Sondheim is a bit different, because that's more of an ode, and a project constructed by many people that are not Sondheim himself (even though he wrote the title song when approached to). So correct me if I'm wrong, but it just strikes me as odd.
