Atlanta Ballet Re-Hires its Orchestra
ATLarts: "The Atlanta Ballet, which sparked a firestorm of controversy in 2006 when it scrapped its orchestra to cut costs, will return musicians to the pit for much of the 2008-2009 season, beginning Oct. 23 with “Swan Lake.”"

I think this article is a fine example of how the audience and the company needs each other. The trustee shows a grand gesture in her donation for an orchestra. I mean, we sometimes forget that our support in a ticket sale does not always mean we are keeping the show afloat. Anyone so involved in the art world has to be active in it in some way beside participation in order to keep the energy level flowing for the amazing things produced out there.
Artists need an audience and supporters, and the audience wants the artist. It is a cycle we all support and love. However, if there isn't money then the cycle can be broken. Thank goodness there are wealthy supporters out there willing to share their wealth. Though it is still a shame that Ballets like the Nutcracker have to be preformed to recorded music.
I hope the musicians were not mad at the ballet because there contract wasn't renewed. It was just business. Either no musicians or no ballet all together.
There is something to be said for live music. Its adds a certain sense of suspense and risk to the performance. Sometimes with recorded music, there is a kind of monotony to the experience as there is only one possible way for the music to sound. Its important to include live music with live dancing.
