Strike gloom spells off Broadway boom
Variety: "What do 1,500 audience members do when one performance of 'The Little Mermaid' gets canceled? They could go to dinner. They could go to the movies. Or they could fill all 194 seats at 'Forbidden Broadway' seven and a half times. In what may have been the only silver lining of the stagehands' strike last week, Off Broadway shows got a significant boost thanks to stranded Rialto theatergoers."

I've been wondering when a piece of this fashion would come out. In all the mess of the strike it is kinda nice to see that at least Off-Broadway is getting its dues, which doesn't really happen a lot. Though they are smaller budgets the performance quality can often be just as good as a Broadway show. It will be interesting to see if after the strike ends what happens to the off-broadway market. Will word of mouth from these past few weeks increase the ticket sales, or will people still want to see BROADWAY just cause it's broadway?
