Playwrights stage Japanese exchange
Variety: "When Polly Carl, producing a.d. of the Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis, embarked on a theater exchange with Japan four years ago, she knew it would be a big job to bridge the cultural divide between the U.S. and the Land of the Rising Sun. What was surprising was the initial lack of interest in the East."

I think spreading art forms from different cultures brings only positive things. Within an art form that has such differences, finding some kind of common ground enables everyone to see the light in both our similarities and our differences. I hope that we may continue to explore Asian culture and how it can be applied to our theatrical experience in America. The important thing to remember is that there is no right or wrong way, or good or bad way, it is just all different, and that is equally important
I'd like to say the Playwright Center really has courage to exchange with Japanese playwright. Both cultures are so different. They are seemingly punctilious and reserved, and their appreciation on something is unusual, at least for me. I am very curious how the directors put on the script of Japanese playwright.
