This is great news for our jobs. Younger people going to more, and more shows means that our audience wont die off anytime soon. I think the recent influx of theatre movies could be a reason that more people are going to the theatre.
Well I wonder why caucasians lost so many percentage points, possibly The Color Purple? There has been an increase in the last year or so in Broadway shows that intend to bring in younger audiences and their parents. For example The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, ... Its good information, and its good to see that a younger audience is seeing shows so that maybe they will continue to support the arts into their older years.
Broadway is already a very strong national brand now. Broadway offers the visitors a good option of entertainment at night. Almost all people go to New York will go to see Broadway show no matter where he/she is from. And we certainly would choose the show that our friends talks and suggests. The critic's talk is abstract at times. BTW, Derek talked Peter Pan and Little Mermaid brought the young audience. Yeah, indeed it is. Derek, good observation!
It seems to me that this survey contradicts itself a few times. It says that 60% of theatergoers are tourists. Then it says the average theatergoer sees 5 Broadway shows a year. Those facts seem to contradict each other. Surveys like this can be faulty too. They hand them out at shows and ask people to send them back in, and there are certain kinds of people in this world how will do that and other types that don’t. I would be willing to bet that a good portion of the teen theatergoing population was lost to this survey for that reason.
