La Scala strike cancels second concert
MiamiHerald.com: "A strike by La Scala's 800 workers forced the opera house on Thursday to cancel a second performance of Verdi's 'Requiem' led by principal visiting conductor Daniel Barenboim. 'Requiem' was to have been performed Saturday in Parma to help commemorate the 50th anniversary of Arturo Toscanini's death. Officials also canceled Saturday's performance of Mozart's 'Cosi fan tutte' in Milan."

This strike is interesting in comparison to the Local 1 strike going on, especially since there was no attempt to make it "official" or negotiate before staging a strike. If this really is about overdue pay raises, then this group of strikers wins my sympathy over the local 1 stagehands, quibbling over excessive over-time (okay, I know it's not that simple, and some of what they're asking for really is needed...). I'd like to see a good example set here by working things out quickly and with limited name-calling, at least in the media.
