Generations Working in Theater

New York Times: "THE name Gersten is back on an office door at the Public Theater. Right now it’s just printed on a piece of paper stuck up with tape. But in the office, the family photos over the desk no longer belong to Bernard Gersten, who ran the Public with Joseph Papp until they had a falling out in 1978. The pictures show instead his smiling grandsons because since August the Public has been the turf of Jenny Gersten, his oldest daughter. Her appointment as associate producer makes her one of the theater’s top artistic staff members. But Ms. Gersten, 38, is not alone. Lately a number of others have followed in the footsteps of family powerhouses to work in commercial and not-for-profit theater."

Theatre is definitely something that can be passed on from generation to generation. A lot of the people I know in theatre had parents who were as well. Some even literally grew up back stage. I can imagine that that is something true for producers, etc. as well.
