Broadway Shows Will Be Part of Macy's Parade

Playbill News: "The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will not be affected by the current stagehands strike. That is, the four Broadway shows originally scheduled to be part of the annual parade — Xanadu, Mary Poppins, Young Frankenstein and Legally Blonde — will perform as planned."

I've been to (almost) every parade since I was around 4, and am going this year, so this is good. The broadway shows tend to stick out, partially because they just do and partially because they change every year when much else doesnt.

Its odd because usually the only reason why I watch the parade is for the Musical Theatre numbers. Now I may be the minority in this statement but I am glad to see that the parade will still have in a sense previews of what is on broadway because in a sense it is really good advertising for the industry and will probably bring in more audiences to shows... Mind you that result won't happen immediately due to the strike

I agree with Travis’s point. The parade must be a gold mine for marketing capabilities, and by bringing current musical theatre out to a larger audience beyond the ‘regular NY theatre going audience’ the immediate effects of that could be felt in the gross income. However, if this strike continues thorough the holiday season the possible effects of the marketing would have passed.

I can hardly watch the parade anymore because of floats like the M&M float. Its silly that children's favorite characters to spot are now just corporate logos.
