Sssh!! Russia's oldest theater hushes cell phones

Reuters: "Plays, operas, ballets and films in Russia are routinely punctuated by the trilling of mobile phones and many patrons are unashamed about chatting in defiance of terse warnings to turn phones off at the start of the evening."

Awesome! It's the etiquette that needs to be respected and people are losing them. I wish they can come up with technology that detects the cameras. But I don't think it was appropriate for the actors to directly address the issue to the audience. Oh well...

This goes back to that other article about people messing around during a show. I don't understand how even after the very distinct announcement to shut off the phone plus all the signs people still leave the phone on. Or they just put it on VIBRATE so you can hear THAT instead of a really bad MIDI of Ode to Joy. I love seeing people take out their phones now and texting like you can't see the bright blue light shining on their face. That's my new pet peeve at a show.. People are so smart :D

I HATE it when people text during a show. And if you're on headset, you can always tell because of the little bleeps over the headset. I'm glad they've discovered something to block that. I don't think it's as necessary in our American theatres. I think people are typically pretty good about it... But I know it would drive me nuts to sit in a performance and have cell phones going off around me.
