Scientists Study Sacred Sounds

Wired News: "By studying the best-sounding spaces (and the worst), the researchers hope to assemble practical design criteria for new churches. The data can also provide the clergy with some considerations on what music works best in existing places of worship."

what a crazy thing to test...i understand the relevance and the historical informatino that this kind of research may give us but i honstly dont think its that relevant in todays society...maybe im close minded? or maybe there are other ways we can be using our time, resources and money...

I think this is really interesting in terms of wanting to solidify and sort of 'better' designs for churches. It seems logical to create these sort of conventions just as we have them for the theatre but I agree with Lydia.. it strikes me as a little odd that they'd spend all this time and money on it.

It's really interest to see the choices in research people make these days. I think it's neat that they decided to see how these churches acoustics affect things, but I really think that they should go a little further and do the analysis of other facilities so that they can help all forms of architecture instead of just that aimed at churches.
