The International Relations Program of Carnegie Mellon University is pleased to present Jendayi Fraser, US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, speaking on:

U.S.-Africa Policy: Instituting a New Paradigm

Jendayi E. Frazer is the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, heading the Bureau of African Affairs. Before taking on her current job, Frazer was Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for African affairs on the National Security Council and the first woman to serve as U.S. Ambassador to South Africa. Prior to entering government in 2001, Frazer was an Assistant Professor for Public Policy at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University from 1995 to 2001. She was Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver and editor of the journal Africa Today from 1991-1994. She graduated from Stanford University with B.A. in Political Science and African and African-American Studies, M.A. degrees in International Policy Studies and International Development Education, and a Ph.D in political science.

The International Relations Program invites you to participate in the next session of the Council of Foreign Relations Academic Conference Call Series with Professor Stephen Flynn.

Professor Flynn is the Council's Jeanne Kirkpatrick Senior Fellow for National Security Studies. He will lead a discussion of his new book, The Edge of Disaster: Rebuilding a Resilient Nation, in which he outlines a comprehensive plan for mobilizing the American people for a safer future. Dr Flynn is the author of the national bestseller America the Vulnerable and coauthor of the Council's Special Report "Neglected Defense:
Mobilizing the Private Sector to Support Homeland Security". Dr Flynn served in the White House Military Office during George H.W. Bush administration and as a Director of the National Security Council staff during the Clinton administration.

The Conference Call will take place on Thursday, March 22 from noon to 1:00 PM in room BH 154 R (Dean's Conference Room). Professor Borzutzky will moderate the conference call.
