Free and open to the public at City Theatre
“Stage Directions”
Discussion led by Tracy Brigden and Kellee Van Aken
City Theatre’s Artistic Director Tracy Brigden and Artistic Associate Kellee Van Aken will lead a talk about casting and directing plays that have never been done before. Free and open to the public, the discussion takes place at City Theatre on Monday, November 13 at 7 pm. Designed for both theatre professionals and audiences who appreciate new work, topics include how an actor creates a character when there are no models for the role, ways to solve problems in a script when there are no proven right answers, and the challenges and rewards of totally inventing a play from scratch.
“Stage Directions” is part of City Theatre’s New American Trio programming. The New American Trio is an innovative series of three new plays plus a constellation of activities being produced at City Theatre this season. The events surrounding the New American Trio are designed to give City Theatre’s audience a hand in the creation of new works for the stage and a behind-the-scenes look into the new play process. The New American Trio includes The Muckle Man, written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and directed by Tracy Brigden; the world premiere of Mezzulah, 1946, written by Michele Lowe and directed by Erica Schmidt; and the world premiere of The Missionary Position, commissioned from Keith Reddin by City Theatre and directed by Tracy Brigden.
