After reading this, I can't see how there would be much correlation between the two pieces. Even not seeing the play, I can already tell I would think that this is not a good match. Seems like he came up with an idea, thought of a better one, but fell too in love with the first one to ditch it. Sometimes, we just need to let it go. But who knows, maybe it was the actresses performance that made is dull. I just think that if the second one turns out to be more interesting, he should think about continuing with that character and tabling the first.
I wonder how much of this discrepancy is intentional? Perhaps he was going for a sense of contrast between the two. This sort of thing tends to happen though. You can't strike gold every time!
