if only there was a way to just prevent audience members phones from going off. the problem with blocking cell phones is the cast and crew need to use them for communication and in case of an emergency and even audience members needs phones in case of an emergency so turning them off for just audience members isn't a good idea. also would a phone blocking system be able to be turned on and off when needed because during load in and techs cell phones can come in handy. so it would suck if you couldn't use any cell phones in the theatre at all. Maybe if the sound designer just made all the sounds in the show louder then people wouldn't be able to hear cell phones going off

I know that its annoying to have a phone go off during a show, but its annoying to have a phone go off a lot of the time no matter where you are. Be it in church, a grocery store, eat n park, class, a movie theatre, the park, a museum, a party, etc. etc. etc. And to be honest, some phone rings are just plain obnoxious. If this problem is ever going to be addressed by anyone that is ever going to be doing a social event/meeting/gathering/ritual/etc it is going to need to involve taking a look at why we feel the need to take our cell phones with us and have them connected to or within close reach of our bodies at all times.
