Broadway, the Land of the Long-Running Sure Thing

New York Times: "For most of its history, Broadway was like a train station. Shows came and went; some big hits would stick around for a few years, then leave before too long. But things have changed, or to be precise, stopped changing. September is traditionally the time when the marquees light up with new titles, productions fresh from the road tryout or from a successful run at a smaller theater."

it seems like, as with most things, the technological improvements of things like credit cards, online ordering, phone ordering, and the tkts booth selling last minute tickets to shows have really only helped Broadway continue to be such a successful commercial venue. It's hard to say if the Broadway of 30 years ago would be worth returning to, but being surrounded in a world of corporate theatre one certainly does miss the quaintness of the small theatre who makes it all the way to Broadway...
